Transylvania has a rich seam of writers, whether German Hungarian or Romanian. It has also inspired great writing in the English speaking world from Bram Stoker to Paddy Leigh Fermor and William Blacker and many others.
Three villages, once home to Saxon communities, but now to the rich mix of peoples mirroring Transylvania today, are to play host to this new festival. In the foothills of the Carpathians, Richis, Biertan and Copsa Mare, maintain their ancient form, surrounded by the countryside and community that have, and continue to inspire, fine literature.
The prime purpose of the Festival will be both to introduce authors to a new readership and to present the beauty of the region which informed their writing. Unlike other book festivals here is the opportunity for all to steep themselves in the country that has given so much to the imagination in one of the last great landscapes of Europe.
